What Does Beard Oil Do - Best Beard Oils - Beard Oils

The beard is a symbol for youthfulness, creativity, and a certain type of rugged manliness. It makes you feel two inches taller, and 10 pounds burlier. But the hardest part is the uncomfortable in-between transformation. From the awkward, itchy, patchy stage - to not recognizing yourself in the mirror - to dealing with your friends not-so-subtly mentioning that it might not be the greatest look.

Here's the deal: If you have a beard, you should definitely be maintaining it the correct way. Most men don’t believe they need to use any products at all. But men should take care of their facial hair as much as they take care of the hair on their heads. When you don't take care of your facial hair the skin underneath dries out, causing flaking. Dryness causes itching and irritation to the skin under your beard. You just need a combination of the right beard styling accessories along with quality beard styling products, like beard oils or beard balms

When it comes to grooming products like beard oils, less is typically more. Good beard oils are usually made of two specific types of  ingredients, a carrier oil and an essential oil.

Carrier oils are generally cold-pressed or macerated vegetable oils. They're named because they carry the essential oil onto the skin, and are necessary for diluting essential oils. The reason why carrier oils are in so many beauty products are because they have amazing moisturizing abilities for your hair and skin. They're loaded with fatty acids that penetrate the skin and hair shaft faster, which reduces the amount of water that can be absorbed, preventing dry skin and brittle hair.  Not to mention all the vitamins that sooth irritated skin, fight acne, and remove free radicals that cause aging.

Essential oils are simply the oil of the plant from which they were extracted. They're generally extracted by distillation, often by using steam. While being a range of scents from citrus to earthy, essential oils have long been used for their benefits as natural remedies. For example, essential oils can be used to fight cold and flu symptoms, soothe sore muscles, heal skin conditions, balance hormones, reduce cellulite and wrinkles, and so much more.

Otter Grooming Co. beard oils select natural oils that most resemble the sebum our faces produce. These are lightweight and absorb faster into the hair shaft without leaving a residue. Plus, all the vitamins help sooth irritated skin, fight acne, and remove free radicals that cause aging.

How To Use Beard Oil

Beard oils should mostly be used on beards in the first 0-3 weeks of growth because it provides both hair and skin benefits.

  1. The best time to apply beard oil is after a hot shower, when your hairs are cleanest and softest; this is when they will most easily absorb the oil.
  2. Dry your beard completely before applying. Water will prevent the oil from being absorbed.
  3. Put 2-3 drops of beard oil in your palms (This will go a long way, and you can apply more later if needed). Spread it evenly in your palms and fingers.
  4. Brush your palms along the sides of your beard. Do the same down the front. Then bring both hands up through the bottom of your beard. Use your finger tips to coat the hairs on your mustache.
  5. Use beard brush to evenly distribute the beard oil while setting the hairs back in place. Repeat this process once daily to keep your beard soft and conditioned.
